Opening Day, 5:42pm

Pitman:
Hey, send those predictions? Everyone else's are in. (Peer pressure!)
Riley:
Sent. I have a SF cap too. How bout if I agree to wear it to no less than 15 home games this year.
Riley:
Photographic evidence provided of course...
Pitman:
Oh shit... YOU have a cap? I have a cap for you that I think may have to supersede...
Riley:
Fair enough. I bought mine in SF though. Mine is a simple orange and black. I will defer to the most gaudy selection as my comeuppance.
Pitman:
Thanks for being such a sport... It is QUITE gaudy, but feel free to wear yours until I next darken your doors.
Riley:
15 home games? 20 is my final offer.
Pitman:
As many games as you attend all season, and no other caps until we have a new loser crowned, I believe was the official ruling.
Riley:
Done.

Riley Wins, Benanav Loses BCBIII

Well, there you have it folks: The San Francisco Giants are World Champions for the second time in three years, and William Riley (91 points) is your victor in the Third Annual Big League Ballcap Bet. John Heydinger (89 points) gave him a serious run for his money, but fell just short of defending his reign as BCB champion.

Cale Drange took down a respectable third place with 81 points, and for the third straight year, Todd Pitman (70 points) has dodged the Ballcap bullet by siding with the senior circuit—pulling out of last place on the final day of the Bet with five re-pick points thanks to the San Francisco sweep.

Joe Klueh (67 points) eked out second-to-last place with his game four Giants pick—and so for the second straight off-season, the Ballcap Bet crown will find its home on the head of Dave Benanav (64 points). Poor bastard.

From the Official Rules and Scoring for Big League Ballcap Bet:

Article III, section 3:

Before the World Series begins, predict the total number of runs scored by both teams.

 Article IV, section 3:

In the event of a tie, use run-total predictions (from III.3 above) to decide outcome:

  • To decide the winner — whoever’s guess is closer.
  • To decide the loser — whoever’s guess is farther.
  • If both guesses are equally close, winner and/or loser will be decided by coin toss.

In the unlikely event of a tie at the end of BCBIII regulation…
