How low has the bar been set for ballplayers that R.A. Dickey qualifies as “the smart guy”? I swear I’ve seen about a dozen different articles out of New York about how “intelligent” or “literate,” or what a “thinking man” he is.

And every time I read one, I just feel so embarrassed for him. But the New York press—who should know better—just keeps right on encouraging him.
